Peter Kalill's acceptance
to Copley Society of Art in Boston is the most recent honor
bestowed upon this gifted young painter. Little did he (or
his parents) know when he spent his classroom days drawing
instead of taking notes, that painting would become his passion
and his career.
Peter
was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1973. He began his
formal studies in art at Providence College in Rhode Island.
In his third year of college, he studied painting, drawing
and art history in Florence, Italy. After traveling to major
museums throughout western Europe, Peter returned to Providence
and earned a B.A. in drawing in 1995.
After
his graduation, Peter moved to Cape Cod and continued to learn
all he could about painting. The following winter he traveled
to the Yucatan Peninsula, Honduras, and Guatemala to study
Mayan art and culture. The next winter, Peter went to San Miguel
de Allende, Mexico, where he befriended landscape painter Frank
Gardner, who introduced him to plein air painting.
It was in Frank’s gallery that Peter sold his first paintings.
Upon
returning home from his second winter in San Miguel, Peter
was accepted into AddisonArtGallery where his first show in
the U.S. was a great success. Peter’s work has attracted
the attention of many collectors throughout the U.S. and Canada,
and has been featured in several fine publications including
Cape Cod Art Review and American Art Collector. Cape Cod Museum
of Art will be exhibiting his work in early 2008.
Peter
Kalill and his fiancée Kathleen will be married in June
of 2007. They live on Cape Cod and continue to travel to San
Miguel and places throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in
search of more great places to paint.
