"This is a painting of a working beach on Monhegan. It struck me that it probably hadn't changed much in many years, except for perhaps the truck - which I likened to a current day fisherman. I sat there and imagined years ago the fishermen working on that beach - the fathers and grandfathers that called this place home - tired and weathered as they slowly walked up the hill to their families waiting inside their warm box-like houses dotting the hillside."

"In Port Clyde, near Nanautuck (the house where we stayed), there was a simple lighthouse and living quarters that we painted all through the week. I painted the living quarters on one perfect September afternoon. I tried to catch the reflected light as the sun rolled across overhead. I found myself simplifying the details and focusing on the colors of the shadows and the bright pop of sunlight on the building and warm hillside lawn."
