LaVerne Christopher

LaVerne Christopher has a freedom of expression unconfined by superfluous details, with which she uses her strong value patterns and unique color statement to create her award-winning works.

LaVerne studied at Michigan State University, Butera School of Art and Massachusetts College of Art as well as with Henry Hensche, Claude Croney, Marshall Joyce, Al Brouilette and Frank Webb.

Working in oil, pastel and watercolor, LaVerne is a recurrent winner of First Place and best of Show in regional competitions and is a Pastel Society of America Landscape Award winner.

A member of the Copley Society of Boston, her works are in many prestigious collections including those of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Citizens Bank, Cape Cod 5 and Leo Diehl Foundation among others.

Artist’s Statement
To me, art is a partnership. As the artist, it is my job to capture or create a mood, feeling or place. The viewer’s job is to interpret, calling upon personal experience and imagination.
