Painting Live with Paul Schulenburg and Andrea Petitto
Collectors and art lovers are invited to watch Paul Schulenburg and Andrea Petitto paint a live model in their own distinct styles, illustrating the interesting differences between brush and palette knife techniques. The artists will talk about deciding on a pose and a composition, setting up the environment and capturing the emotional quality of the gesture, body language and facial expression of the model. As they paint, Andrea and Paul will discuss drawing shapes and rendering values, mixing colors then applying them in ways that bring life to the painting.
Questions will be welcome, providing a wonderful opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the creative processes at work in the paintings one collects. |

Elizabeth Pratt Retrospective
at the Truro Community Center, 7 Standish Way, North Truro
Showing through April 28
Collectors have been acquiring watercolors by Copley Master Elizabeth Pratt for almost 70 years. This retrospective exhibition includes landscapes, portraits, structures, animals and her unique depictions of the world under water. While many of the scenes are inspired by Cape Cod, the show also includes work from her extensive international travels.
Elizabeth said, “To enhance the effects of the renowned Cape Cod light, my colors are strong and my contrasts strong. Fluid and transparent, watercolor allows me to spontaneously capture the motion of the waves and currents that surround this peninsula. The expanses of sky, the reflections of the sky in the water, the natural flow of the wind, all lend themselves to the free expression afforded by this medium. I am truly pleased that this show will be mounted in Truro, in an area of abundant natural beauty.” |

Interpreting the Landscape with Cammie Watson
at Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill
A landscape painting develops depth and meaning as data from the outside world is filtered through the artist. The painting becomes a visual expression of the artist’s feelings in response to the subject, rather than a rendering of what the eye alone can see. This workshop, led by Cammie Watson, will alternate between collecting data through sketches, notes, and memory in the field on one day, and the next day creating a landscape in the studio. Please call Castle Hill at 508.349.7511 to enroll or for more information. |
