Joshua Rose, Editor of American
Art Collector,
with Carol Maguire at the Boston International
Fine Art Show. |
Carol Maguire's love
of art, color, china, textiles and gardening have all become
inspiration and fodder
for her paintings.
She paints
things
to which she is visually attracted, the objects that surround
daily life: family treasures, gifts from friends, garage-sale
finds all in combination with nature’s glorious fruits
and flowers.
Her early years were spent in all sorts of creative pursuits,
first as a quilter then as a professional doll maker, designing
and
creating art dolls. Carol has designed furniture, children’s
clothing, and dinnerware for Lenox China under the Dansk
and Kate Spade brands. She has traveled to India, Peru,
Romania, Guatemala and Honduras, teaching her skills
to indigenous people.
Carol started painting full time and showing
her work after 9/11. She also teaches painting workshops
in her studio
and in San
Miguel de Allende, Mexico two or three time a year.
Carol has a BA in Art History and has furthered her studies
at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Sorbonne,
the Barnes Foundation and the Fleisher Art Memorial. Her passion
results in painterly works saturated with color and joie de
vivre. Artist's Statement
I am in constant search for the image
that best reflects my voice, an image that matches my emotional
and spiritual journey,
always seeking the perfect balance of light and color. Why
do I paint? It’s my creative voice, the expression of
my outlook on life. I paint to capture a moment in my life
... through my eyes.
