Jon Wigren spent much of his childhood living on a road that ended at the Hudson River. This led to countless hours spent on the shore and on and in the river crabbing and fishing. It also led to a lifetime appreciation of and obsession with aquatic life, its forms and colors. He pursued this interest in high school art classes and the art room became his favorite indoor place.
Spending summers on Block Island, Rhode Island, he enjoyed his once childhood pursuits and his now young adult passion for art. Having learned of a good art school, the Rhode Island School of Design became a focus. He graduated from RISD with a BFA in 1968.
The years since college have been happily spent raising two boys with his wife Barbara and enjoying splitting his time in Providence and on Cape Cod in the family house in East Orleans. In addition to his always active art endeavors he has designed and built houses, furniture, horse barns and pizzas.
Jon's work ranges from prints and painting to assemblage, drawing, and wood carved sculpture. He has shown and sold his work predominately in New England and New York.
Fifty years later, the fish still loom large.
